After 11 years in the custom picture framing business we revisited the eternal question, “How can we serve our customers better?” In trying to find the answer we took a look at our assets and liabilities.
On the positive side we have a certified professional photographer on staff. We also have an artist on staff who is working on her Bachelor of Fine Arts, majoring in New Media. Between them they bring an innate understanding of the colour, composition and mood of an image and a wealth of knowledge regarding the preproduction work that is essential to prepare a work of art for printing.
In the past we have faced some challenges involving finding that perfect piece of art for every customer. In our search we would often find that the image that the customer desired would not be available in the colour, or the size, or the orientation or the medium that was needed. If the image was the customers own creation that needed to be printed we had to hand over control of the results to a third party, the finished product was out of our control, the time table was out of our hands.
The obvious answer (like, blinding flash of light obvious) was to have our own printing department. Having had experience with Hewlett Packard large format printers we decided on the HP Z3200 giclee printer. This is a fine art printer that can print up to 44”x66” on photo paper or canvas. The pigment based inks used on archival fine art medium are given a 200 year Display Permanence rating by Wilhelm Imaging Research Inc. The 12 ink system allows museum quality prints with an extended colour gamut for incredibly exact colour reproduction with rich, deep tones.
As a small business our reputation lives on the service that we provide, therefore all projects start with a dialogue with the customer that covers all aspects of the project from the initial file through printing mounting and framing. Your image will be previewed and minor corrections can be done at no charge. More advanced adjustments can also be performed and a proof will be provided before printing. Exceeding your expectations is our highest priority!
